WHAT WE STAND FOR

My Death, My Decision is a grassroots movement for assisted dying reform. We want a compassionate law on assisted dying that permits a medically assisted death to adults of sound mind who are terminally ill or intolerably suffering. We believe reform is necessary to reduce the suffering of individuals who are close to death, and, just as importantly, to give choice to those with incurable conditions who face years of constant pain or suffering that they find unbearable.

PARLIAMENT MUST LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE

Since Parliament last considered assisted dying in 2015, around 250 million more people around the world have the right to choose an assisted death – a total of over 360 million worldwide.

Yet people are suffering here now because the current laws aren’t working. We shouldn’t be afraid to reform our laws, when there is so much evidence that we can permit the choice of an assisted death and, at the same time, protect the most vulnerable. There is a better way forward.

Why is Parliament so far behind public opinion on this compassionate social change?

My Death, My Decision is calling on the Government to hold an inquiry and consider all the evidence. Will you join your voice to ours?

WHY WE'RE CAMPAIGNING

One person a week goes to Switzerland from the UK for an assisted death – more than twice as many as a few years ago. Families have to let someone they love travel  and die alone, or risk imprisonment for going with them. For many, it’s an impossibly difficult or expensive journey. We know there is a safe and compassionate alternative.

Nearly 90% of people want assisted dying reform for people who are terminally ill or intolerably suffering. Respect for choice and autonomy is what protects the most vulnerable amongst us. My Death, My Decision is calling for robust safeguards – if so many other countries can achieve this in a safe and legal manner, why can’t we?

It is time for change.
